Advanced Composite Manufacturing Laboratory

Our laboratory conducts research in the areas of advanced manufacturing of high-performance composite parts. The research works combine multi-disciplinary expertise in manufacturing, computational mechanics, material science, design optimization, etc. â€‹Our current research directions include:

  • Numerical modeling methods for manufacturing processes, such as preforming, compaction and curing of fiber reinforced polymer composites

  • Integrated computational material engineering (ICME) for process-performance and multiscale modeling of fiber-reinforced polymer composites

  • Design, fabrication and testing of carbon fabric composite structural batteries

  • Numerical modeling and experimental characterization methods for carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites under hydrothermal ageing conditions

  • Shear-thickening-gel applied carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites
